Hello, I have just purchased my third merc in my life. All two strokes.
I have always mixed the gas. Now my new 50 hp two stroke has the tank that will automatically mix the ratio for me.

I have heard that its good and bad.

Mainly because there is a plastic gear somewhere that makes it all work.

Please let me know what you guys think. Good and bad.
After all it would be nice, but if im taking a chance on the motor its really not worth it?

If the oil injection system is working, I would just leave it. You run cleaner and burn less oil. If you have any reason to suspect your oil injection system is not up to par, by all means bypass it. If it's a 20 year old oil injected engine I would be more concerned about the oil pump than a 2 year old engine.

I have found them to be very effective. I did have an oil pump fail once when the nylon gear stripped. Just carry some tcw 3 with you or a hay to do an emergency pre-mix on the water (ie take it out of the oil tank).

This is another of those endlessly debatable subjects, but that said, I've had motors with oil injection and those requiring premix, and they're both fine. But at the end of the day, for simplicity and dependability, I still prefer my premix 2 stroke outboard. That's probably just old-man talk from a geezer, but another few years and probably won't be many 2 strokes left, oil injected or premix. Maybe you should just run it like it is, just check the oil tank/pumping system from time to time. Good Luck!
