Mixing oil

I always use Quicksilver Synthetic blend 2 cycle outboard oil. The store ran out so I pick up a bottle of Quicksilver premium plus. One is synthetic and the other not. Both are TC-W3. Will it hurt the motor running both oils in the same gas tank? To keep to the 50:1 ratio I have a 6 gallon spare tank with 9oz of synthetic and 7 oz of conventional oil.

Thanks,
Tom

I've done it - I don't think it matters

Re: Mixing oil

Years ago there was an old wives tale about not mixing synthetic and natural oils.
I contacted Mobil 1 and they said NOT SO.

The only thing you should worry about is dumping all the oil in at once.
I put in 1 pint or a quart. Add 6 or 12 gal. Then add more oil/gas.
Oil will eventually settle to the bottom after a LONG time.
So that means go boating a LOT:)

Re: Mixing oil

I feel so inferior and cheap considering I only used TCW-3 non-synthetic in a generic blue jug from Walmart for $12! However, sometimes I'm forced to use the $18 Penzoil too! LOL

Re: Mixing oil

I usually just dump the oil in all at once (maybe I shouldn't) after filling up. Then I have to drive an hour to the lake, so it should be blended sufficiently? (hilly, mountainous terrain here in VA)
I also try and run the tank down far as I feel safe every now and then.
(just don't run out!)
Now, to find time to go boating.........

I figured it be ok, I just never ran into this before. Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Mixing oil

Gregmsr, although your method is acceptable the better method however is dump the oil first and then fill it up with gas. The pouring gas will surely agitate and mix the oil better instead of pouring the oil after the gas.

Re: Mixing oil

Greg.NEVER add oil after the gas!!!! It just goes in and settles to the bottom and gets sucked up first and can carbon that NEW motor.
Been out lately. Do it like I suggested and it will insure the motors operating right.

I will cease this immediately (your yelling at me).
Going out today for the first run at 50:1 with the NEW motor!
Safe to try WOT? 12 gal at 24:1 has been ran thru it.

Re: Mixing oil

i agree the walmart oil good too and have used it. I usually use the yellow bottle of Pennzoil. The only reason I had use the mercury oils b/c a bunch came with my boat - but I think it's too expensive. Seems I get the best result with Pennzoil - on sale in my area a lot for 16.00 a gallon.
