First off all thanks guys for yalls expertise advice! The other day i had posted a thread asking what a certian scew was, and It turns out to be the Idle MIXTURE screw according to yalls advice.......anyways, I got that picture off of this site; however that was not my motor. I have a force 1996 75 HP.....The screw i was asking about is in the same location as the picture i had that is why i used that picture. anyways, I took the boat out this weekend and it felt fine to me. I mean i know i screwed with the screw a little; however when i gass it the motor responded good....I think if it was too lean or to rich it would have not acted right!!! Anyways, corrected me if I am wrong and also know thaT you all know my motor and what year/modle it is cane you tell me the exact turns I need to make on my mixture screw?????

-Thanks guys

There is no magic number of turns for an idle mixture screw. There is just an initial adjustment, usually about 1? turns out. You manual will give you the exact starting point. Final adjustment is done in the water, at idle and in gear. It sounds like you now have it adjusted correctly. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

The starting point in the book is 1 turn out.

The motor should "stumble" for a split second when you accelerate hard.
Just a momentary hesitation for a split second. Then, for safety sake, turn the screw out an additional 1/8 turn.

Unless you absolutely, 100% for sure, positively know what you are doing------don't mess with that screw---- It's a recipe for disaster.

I have written time and time again: Since that idle circuit is ALWAYS at manifold vacuum, and is always delivering some fuel, adjusting that screw also has an effect on the full throttle mixture. Get it too lean and the idle will be beautiful---BUT---you will melt piston(s). And it will happen so fast, you won't have time to react.

Before you mess with idle mixture screws, GET THE MANUAL, READ IT, AND UNDERSTAND THE ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE! Mr. Frank has made every mistake in the book, and paid the consequences. Use his experience to preserve your engine.

NUFF SAID?
