Re: mixture setting
SBrice.... Remove that four way linkage setup, then remove the carburetor face plate assy so that you are looking at the front of the carburetors.

If you can easily turn any of those slow speed needle valves, and the nylon friction bearing retainer (that nylon gizzmo with the lobe hanging in a slot) is either black or white, remove all of the slow speed needle valves and replace that friction retainer with a "RED" one (OMC #315232).

When you have four RED friction retainers installed, install the slow speed needle valves and gently seat them, then back all of them out 1-1/2 turns.

You can re-install the carb face plate now if you like.

NOTE.... With the "RED" friction retainers installed, there will be no need to install that four way linkage between the valves as those "RED" retainers will not allow the valves to move by themselves.

Follow the instructions below, starting with the (facing the carburetors) top left valve, then go to the top right valve, the bottom left valve, and finally the bottom right valve. You may need to go back over them in that sequence to tweak them so to speak. Now...........

(Carburetor Adjustment - Single S/S Adjustable

Needle Valve)
Initial setting is: Slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running. Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

When you have finished the above adjustment, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.
