i already did the search for this issue, so here goes. mk legend at 565 46# foot controlled. i also have a transom mount on this boat. the mk does not pull the boat that well unless it is in 5th speed. i use to run on 3rd speed all the time now i have to use 5th to pull the boat the rear tm does not have this problem. the batteries and connectors all look good. there is no line on the prop or any signs of corrosion any where. do the motors just go bad slowly? any other ideas on what to check?. i am not losing voltage along the line from the batt to the plug. thanks

Could be a tight bearing. Turn the prop by hand. You will feel a slight jerkiness as you turn the prop slowly. If you need a fair bit of pressure to turn the prop then a tight bearing is the likely problem. If it turns about the same as the other motor then it may be a worn bearing. That may not show up unless the motor is running. What happens is the magnetic action going on sucks the armature toward the housing and some binding can occur. The motor would be noisy if the armature rubs but the bearing may not be bad enough to cause that but may still slow it down. Grasp the prop (always iwht power disconnected) and sort of pry it up, down and sideways to feel for looseness in the bearings, Other than that, bad brushes are about the only issue. The motor housing needs to be opened up to replace those.
