i am new to the ownership of a chrysler outboard, cant seem to find on my engine. i have a 45 hp model number 454ba. does anyone now what other model is similiar to this one so i can order parts like condenser, points, all the stuff on the top of the engine. also i would like to know if anyone has any ideas about why at low speeds the engine bogs out and stalls. no prob starting no probs at high speeds. only at trolling speeds. i also need to know how to tell the year of the engine.

Re: model 454ba

Your motor is from 1970. Are the plug wires hard wired to the coils or can they be separated?. Might want to try going to chrysler crew and buy a parts and service manual for it. Mercury still sells a lot of parts for that motor and mainly they added an F in front of the part number compared to the original chrysler part number. Most parts like impeller, seal kits carb kits and fuel pump kits are interchangable for all the 45, 35 and 55. To fix your idle I would rebuild the fuel pump and possibly the carb. First try removing the idle mixtuer screw located above the choke butterflies and spray some carb cleaner in that hole with a straw. Put the screw back in and try it again. When putting the screw in turn all the way clock wise till lightly seated then back counter clockwisae about 1 1/4 turn. That might help improve your idle.
