I'm trying to find the model number of my boat. It is a 1968 40hp Johnson. I called around some local marine shops and most people said to check on the transom mount for the model number. I looked there and everywhere else, and couldn't find it. Any suggestions....(I got a pic of the "transom mount" where I looked)

Re: Model Number Location?

Look on the engine for a Welsh Plug (Looks like a freeze plug) and see if there are any number/letters on there...

Re: Model Number Location?

The model # of the boat might be on the boat data plate which on occasion is hidden behind your throttle control, or on the transom on a plate or.... it has long since vanished from the circa 1968 boat.

The model # for the motor is either on the tilt mechanism or inside on a tag bolted to the motor yet another item that couls have vanished over the years.

Bob
