I have a 55 Hp Chrysler motor its on a 75 Mirrocraft but the model says 5555 and the serial says 1460 but this doesnt seem to be the right numbers for the parts guy here at beaver marine and I'm not finding any other numbers.

Could someone please let me know where else to look for these numbers, I'm not sure if its even a 75 motor anymore now. It was painted camouflage for duck hunting so someone may have painted over them?? Thanks for your help!

Re: Model Number ? to get lower unit seals

5555 Is probably a 1967-69 or so Chrysler 55. with the "Hydro-Dart" lower unit. 55 indicates horsepower, third 5 indicates long shaft, and fourth 5 indicates electric start. This model numbering was obsolete a few years after it was started and most places will not be able to cross reference. As for seals, the lower unit used all standard seals and if you save the old ones, a bearing supply store will be able to match them--just be sure to tell them it is an outboard and you need all stainless--shell and garter spring. The shift rod seal is the same one used in all larger engines up until about 1989-- you can get that at a Mercury dealer--I never tried to get it at a supply store.

Don't want to go through all that fuss? Contact franzmarine@aol.com. Franz will know right off the top of his head and will have the seals for you.
