Just bought this engine and need to know where to look for the serial #?

Transom clamp, or other? Thanks for the help!

There should be a plate attached to the transom mount.

Wow, I found it on the starboard side of the transom bracket. It's actually a sticker and was peeled amost all the way off and barely legible. I should have an interesting time getting it registered with the tax collectors. I peeled the rest of it off and I guess will have to reapply with some adhesive and hope I can get it titled.

Best I could tell it's "0B169260" which I hope is a 1987.

The serial number should be stamped into this soft plug

Hello there, Thought I would let you know that your engine serial number "0B169260" would actually be considered an 1986 MERCURY 2.0L 150 XR2 ELPTO from mercury marine.

Engine Model No: 1150766.

To update the thread, I couldn't find a stamped serial number in the plug on the engine block. Maybe the powerhead was replaced at some point who knows. Hopefullly the titling folks will work with me although the sticker is legible only in the right light.
