modifying bimini top width

A buddy of mine gave me a pretty nice 3 bow bimini......center of mounting points on boat is 73" bimini frame is 69" I know I can spread the bimini to get it to mount,

But the problem is the narrow frame lay's over the outside portion of the sun deck......making it a pain to open the deck to inspect engine or charge batteries and such.

Question is......If I were to remove the bows from the top and add 4" to the center of the bows do you think it would make the top look like it was too small for the frame?
I have no problem doing the mod. but don't wanna do it then go " that looks like fido's ass"

Yea could be a problem as the top would not extend arounf the edges of the frame. The top extending around the edge is what keeps the top from sliding side to side on the frame. If it were only an inch or so you would be ok but 4 inches sounds like a lot, I would question it myself.

Yeah...... that's what I thought but figured I would run it up the flag pole and see.
