I have a Monterey 180E boat with the 4.3GL-A Volvo Penta motor. The batteries cables were connected backwards and we ended up getting a lot of smoking coming off the alternator. The question I have is what did I all wreck. I can get a new alternator but what else will need to be fixed? I tried connecting the battery the correct way and when you turn the key to run there is a loud beeping coming from where the fuses are to the left of the alternator. I'd appreciate any help anyone has. Thanks.

:welcome: Pyle to iboats. Nice having you join us on here...

Well obviously you have alternator issues, but maybe not as bad as you thought. You can have the diode pack rectifier and regular modules changed in your alternator and that will probably fix that issue. As for everything else, that is a little tougher to make decisions because we don't know how everything is wired in your setup. You could have ignition modules fried and even accessories fried as well. So without being there and testing things, it is really hard to say... maybe others with more familiarity can make further suggestions... JMHO!
