All,

Thanks so much for all of you info. I have a quick questions I wanted to ask you all. I am looking at purchasing a 10hp "Moky Ward" Sea King 10hp - it's a 70's model and through research I believe is built by Chrysler. Through inspection, it's been sitting of course but pumps water in a tank, shifts in both gears nicely, rev's but has an occasional miss and then goes smooth again. I am guessing it needs crab work although this will be my first project. I am just looking for a simple motor to run on a restricted lake on occasion, and may use on a bigger boat as a kicker in the future. It's about 100.00 bucks right now and seems okay to me. I was curious to your guys thoughts. It will need some work but do you think with usual maintence I can keep it running. The only expereince I had with outboards was a 1985 johson 140 VRO and had no real problems other than a fuel pump. Just wanted to get your thoughts on the motor and possible work that will be invovled with the miss or sputter. Oh, the sputter did go away once it was running for awhile. I know this is limited info but I don't own the motor yet. Thanks!

That sounds normal. A hundred for any running 10Hp is worth it. As a matter of maintenance, I'd rebuild the water and fuel pumps, change the gearlube, replace the sparkplugs. It might not hurt to rebuild the carb, but it may not be necessary. If the carb smells nasty and not like gas, plan on rebuilding it.

Are parts still readily aviable since Chrylser obvioulsy doens't make outboards anymore; and monky ward doesn't sell them anymore? THanks

There are some parts out there, but you have to look for them. Mercury was the last one to own the company, but they have discontinued it also. Depends on what you need. I think here at iboats, some stuff is available.

Go up to the Force/Chrysler heading. Way on the right-hand side is a long list of links of aftermarket parts. What you'd need for common repairs is still available through Sierra (sold here) and/or a Merc dealer.
