Mooring pendent

Hello, On my mooring pendent there is a small string attached where it the hook attach's to the boat. Does anyone know what this is for?

SPYKEKPT -<br /><br />Hamilton Marine calls it a "spliced-in choke line" on their Polydyne pennant/pendant. I'm not sure of it's intended purpose, but I use it to attach the pennant to my pickup buoy. Hope this helps.<br /><br />Regards,<br /><br /> --rml
