Last night they took my pop for a ride in the ambulance. He totaly collapsed at home.Lost his vision and had a tingling all over. The docs suspect a heart attack or stroke. Thankfully as of today he his up talking and feeling better. Still waiting for all the test results to find out exactly what happened. Well Im off to the hospital to take care of buisness and make sure the old boy is listening to the docs.

Be pushy if you have too. It sometimes its hard to realize your not immortal...After H/A I went into complete denial and tried to make everyone think I was Ok. Keep the chin up and take the hard love stance ifn you have to,my son did. Stubborn is my middle name...

Gone fishin you hit it on the head. I just got back from the hospital. The old boy says he feels great, but I can tell by looking at him he feels like sh!t. Though he admits he feels a little weak. I think he is just saying he feels good so we can go on our fishin trip planned for next weekend.(aint gonna happen at this point) He is a piece of work. Over 70 and still working, although he is set for life and would never have to work another day?

Flathead>>>A few months back I had to hurry home to Georgia not knowing whether my arrival would be for a recovery or a funeral for my mother.Thankfully it was a recovery.I stayed a week at the hospital and played "Devil's Advocate" taking the "Stern" approach with her.My brothers and sisters told me several times in the first few days to "lighten up"but then noticed that she responded more to me than them.I did alot of things for her but also insisted that she at least TRY a lot of others. The doctor told me that it most likely was a factor in getting her home 4 or 5 days quicker.
I feel for you at this time and hope you can temper the stern with the loving as well as I surprised myself with.My thoughts are with you and yours.

Re: More bad news

The guys have got it right Flathead. Be there for him and don't give him any idea that things won't get better. My Pop had a heart attack to. Only he waited till we were 500 miles away from home. We were on our fall fishing trip at John Kerr Reservoir. Third day he had it. Took him over to South Boston Hospital where they did the cath. Four veins 95% blocked and one 100% blocked. He was really bummed out. We both knew that home was not going to happen untill he got better. He darn near went into depression. But I told him not to worry, Mom was on her way and things were going to be OK. He would see the Ohio River again. To make a long story short, a one week fishing trip lasted six weeks. But we got home. He will be 81 in August. Don't settle for anything less than full recovery. It will happen. I know. My thoughts are with you and your Dad.

OUCH!
our prayers are with you and yours.

stick with him and like the others have already offered, nuthin' short of full recovery.
bypass? balloon angioplastic?(sp?)

in the mid 80's, my pappy had a quad bypass. the new plumbing lasted 10 years. if it wern't for his smokin' & drinkin', might have lasted another ten.

Thanks all for your thoughts. It turns out he had a stroke. He is fine and is just getting lots of test to try to find out where the blood clots are coming from. The docs found signs of an earlier stroke. He then confessed that yes he did have a similar incident that he didnt bother to tell us about. Hope to have him back home by Tuesday.

Re: More bad news

He might be having what they call "mini strokes".

My father in law had them for about three years before he had a major one that left him paralyzed on the right side.

His was caused from small blood vessels bursting in his head.

We would come in and he would just be sitting there in la-la land and we would know he had another mini.

He would not do as the docs ask and ended up having a bad one and now my wife has to take care of him 24-7.

He has a son, but that's another story that we won't get into.

Hope they find his troubles and gets them fixed.

I wish you and your family the best. I just went through the same thing with my Dad. I made an emergency trip to Arkansas. I had to be firm with him otherwise he would have been up doing things he wasn't supposed to out of pure stubborness. When I sat down and talked to him about the possible consequences, he followed the doctors orders and has made a complete recovery from his stroke. Good luck with everything. After his recovery, go on that fishing trip and enjoy every day.
