Hi,

Please let me know the pertinent info about this model #: 856HA

I know this means an 85 HP and I think HA means it is a 1970. What does the "6" stand for?

Thanks,

Shane Williams

Hi Turtle
You indeed have a 1970 85hp Chrysler. The question I have is how did you figure that HA in the mod# ment 1970?
Spike, here's a question for you. How do you figure that the number 6 stands for reg. shaft? Does that mean that a 7 is a long shaft? What about numbers 8 and 9? What do they mean? I can't seem to find any reference to this affect anywhere. If you guy's could clairify this for me I would be greatful.

Re: More Chrysler Info Please

Hi Alcan and Spike,

From 1970 - about 77 (I believe) the letters go like this: HA, HB, HC, HD, HE, etc. 1970 starts the process at HA. 1971 is HB and so on.

My Seloc manual doesn't talk about any of this. I had a very general Intertec manual at one time, it talked about this as well as the last number meanings. I don't have that manual anymore, so that is why I posed the question.

I believe the number "9" indicated a long shaft, w/alternator, with Magnapower ignition (or something to that effect). Anyway, all the numbers indicated something similar to what I just said. "8" might have been long shaft, w/ alternator, and a non-magnapower ignition. Apparently, "6" indicates a standard shaft but I was wanting to know what it indicated concerning the ignition.

I don't have this motor yet, but it is listed on E-bay and I was wanting to find out more info about it. Unfortunately the owner can't verify that it runs (it's been stored in a warehouse) and is unable to take a picture of the fuel pump side of the engine. So I'm going to pass on this engine plus I need a long shaft anyway. The last thing I need right now is another engine that has a problem

Shane

Hi Turtle
This is interesting. I'll go to the library and do some research,I think they have a copy of that manual there. I have the OEM year model guide and I can't make the system your using line up. Examople, mod#859HA SER#10001 is a 1977. Mod#859BA ser# 1001 is a 1977.

My old abos manual says 6=standard shaft 7=
long shaft 8=racing standard.production code before 1970 says 1,3 &5 following the shaft code=
US model 2,4&6=Canada models code after 1970
HA,HB,HC,HD,&HF=USA models BA,BB,BC,&BF=canada
models. My manual gives no indications of other
features. My manual only goes to 73.

Hi Alcan,

I could very well be wrong here. That was just my understanding of what I have gathered from that manual and from others. It may not be an exact science.

Shane
