Re: More hp

Confirm that everything is set up properly, and motor is mounted at the proper height and functioning properly, withinin the recommended rpm range.

THEN, if you just need a little more holeshot, and your rpm are not exceeding the range, you can go to a lower pitch prop.
Also, lighten the load in the boat.

Re: More hp

Hey Roscoe -- I grew up next door in Stetsonville. As for squeezing more oomph from your Yamaha, the 50 HP is already the top HP for that block. You could turn a 40 to a 50 by replacing the reed block, exhaust tube, and carbs from a 50 HP engine but new parts prices make this rather impractical. You might investigate Boyson reeds and play with propellers and engine height settings to gain a little more power.

Re: More hp

I think Upinsmoke is indicating the correct way to go. HP is not the only thing that produces better performance - in fact the hull efficiency is just as important. 50 HP on a nice little aluminum 14 ft boat is going to out perform the same motor on a 30ft barge. Go to www.NauticusInc.com home page, then to the bottom of the left side menu under quick links to "Boat Balance and Performance". Down load this and see what you think.
