So with the boat I bought, I'd like to find more information about the engine.
It's a Sea King 20
I can't seem to find any stamped numbers, unless I'm not looking in the right spot. The only numbers I can see are scratched into the paint.
Here's the number.

MN0620 000 8647

Any help would be great.

Re: More info on Sea King?

Number may be missing;just look everywhere on the motor.Especially the mounting bracket both inside and outside of the boat.Probably begin with VWB.20 first appeared in 64-65 built by West Bend. They were purchased by Chrysler circa 65,Chrysler models appearing in 66.It appears 20 hp SeaKing last year was 73.I don't have info for 66.67,68 Sea King but I assume all were Chrysler built.

Re: More info on Sea King?

There are only 3 other stamped numbers on the engine and mounts.
Is there a certain place they stamp the numbers?

On the bracket that mounts to the transom
145532
AICOA

Bracket that mounts the engine bracket to the transom bracket.
145072-1

Bracket the mounts engine to bracket.
183940-1

Then the scratched in number that is listed 2 times.
Dont know if it will help, but is has a:
Tillotson Carb
# MD126A
And the logo on the cowl had Sea King 20 and a M with W But they are stacked on top of each other.

The M and W is for Montgomery Wards, the department store the motor was sold through, Sea King was their house brand.

Re: More info on Sea King?

As mentioned earlier, there should be a be a number vwb.
For some reason I can't find this number.
If it would help I can snap some pics.

It has a pull start. I'm wondering how this works?
It has a sproket, but it seems I have to push it up to engauge it. Unless you really have to pull on it.
Also I have pulled the wires off of the plugs and didn't take note one where they go. Does it matter which plug goes where? I still havent checked for spark.

Re: More info on Sea King?

OK I'm pretty sure this is a Chrysler If you post the pics and your question in the Chrysler Force section Something like Sea King by Chrysler what year Chrysler.Something so they don't throw it back into the other outboards section. The MD carb was carried through to end of production circa 76.
66/67 Chrysler lists Champion J4J plug I think superceded by J4C, My 69-76 Chrysler listing says Champ. L4J.It appears the last Chrysler 20hp Sea King was in 73.
