I have a '73 model Johnson 25 hp outboard. Runs like a top, is there anyway to improve the power and speed
of this unit....... It's on a 14' semi V lonestar aluminum boat ....does great w/just me a light equipment... add fishing buddy
and some modifications on boat and it gets pretty slow. Any help is appreciated.

Re: more power, speed

I have a small (3 meter) RIB, with a 6hp engine. It does the same - goes like a rocket with just me in it, but with another person, slows right down. I found that putting the other person near the front helps, so that there isn't too much weight at the back.

You could also try trimming the engine out a bit - that should increase your top speed. But be careful, as it will get very bouncy on rough water if you trim it too much!

25hp on a 14' semi-V. Sure performs better with light load, is bound to.

To make sure it does as best it can you should look over the motor mount height, the trim angle, the rpm at wot (hence the prop dimension) and consider weight distribution in the boat.
