I am new to boat ownership, I bought a 1988 crestliner sportfish with a 100hp mercury, boat is 17.5 ft and weighs 1100 lbs. what should i expect for speed from this setup and what can i do to increase speed 5mph. currently the boat has a 19 pitch 3 blade prop aluminum and previosly had a 17 pitch stainless steel prop. with either prop it runs at about5000 rpm and about 34mph.

Re: more speed

I'm not an expert but I can get you started.First we need the actual approximate
operating weight of your boat.Year and max reccomended rpm of your motor.
Though we don't know the max reccomended rpm for your motor it or actual weight of your boat you may be a little slow and the rpm could be low.
First thing to do is be sure your motor is properly tuned and in good condition.Be sure the throttle is opening all the way. Use the stainless prop Then fine tune your setup.Antivent plate should be about even with the bottom of the boat. You may be able to raise it a little more until just before
ventilation becomes a problem.Be sure your not dragging around extra weight and the bottom is clean.Once you have this all done let us know your max rpm and your speed GPS speed is best.

Re: more speed

The dry weight of your boat is 1075 lbs. Set up properly, your outboard should get it to launch out of the water just fine.
