WOW!!!
We do not get to see the northern lights very often but last night she put on a good show.
Yes there was the green stabing points that lit up the sky, but I got to see the horizontal curtain with red, yellow, kind of a purple ish and green.

MOST COOOOOOOL :)

Thats something i'd like to see. At the moment I'm in portland, oregon and the smoke from the wildfires sure make beautiful sunsets.....red and purple.

I'll have to look for the northern lights next time i come through BC

They will probably be back tonight, SO, if you send me up your really, really "expensive camera" that takes great pics in the dark:rolleyes: :D

Kidding, See what I can do if they start dancing again tonight.

And YUP, I whistled at them and they did the dance, bet you never knew that about them???

Gotta go some to beat a Florida summer thunderstorm for fireworks. I once got a ticket for impeding traffic (JB???) in Ft. Likkerdale because I stopped in the combat zone to watch the lightning display.

Although impressive as lightning shows are, this is just rare to see here, especially the multiple colours and the horizontal curtain.

Thought I was back up in the arctic for a minute.

Re: Mother natures light show

I used to live in northern Alberta. We used to get them quite often, especially when it got cold. One show in particular I will always remember. As I was coming back from walking the dog I noticed the northern lights. They were all the colours you could imagine. Reds, greens, blues. I called the wife to come and look at them.

We stood out in the driveway for about 20min as they moved around us. They did a complete circle around where we happened to be standing. The air was so cold and clear I could swear that they were making noises. Kind of like a cristal and ice crackling sound at the same time. It was awesome to just stand there and watch and listen.

After about 20min and watching them make a circle they started to fade. I think I will always remember that show.

I've also seen huge lightning storms in Alberta that last for hours, but for sheer beauty, I don't think anything can beat the northern lights.

Lightning storms to me are great too but its almost like mother nature is showing off her power with lightning and thunder while northern lights seem to be about mystical beauty. If that makes sense to anybody.

Yeah Dan, know what you mean about the beauty.

When they made the sound did it go WOW WOW WOW sorta???

Thats what I swear I heard once back in northern ontario.

same thing sorta got to the bivvy area at this lake after a 30 km route march, the northern light encircled the lake for about an hour, heavy light show when they made the sound.

rbh: no they never made the WOW WOW WOW sound. It was more of crispy crackling sound. Almost like someone almost out of ear shot was scrunching up parchment paper. Or the paper that women like to stuff gift bags with.

The red seemed to be little louder than the greens and blues.

We had that crispy crackling sound last night, but it was my hand going in and out of the chip bag. :D

I get that too on occasion. Usually with a crisp crack from when I open a new can of a warm light brown colored drink made from hops.

Most cameras take decent night photos/videos with the flash off or (if it's digital), will usually have a night setting. If you really, really, really want it, I'll send you mine...I paid $25 for it. Takes great night photos! But...you gotta send it back!
