ive just got a 60hp mercury on my 20' toon and it runs like a champ with muffs on in the driveway, but in the water I can't get it past 2000 rpm it boggs like it's being choked, which gives me a 6mph troll is this normal speed on a 20' with a 60hp still new to outboards sorry

No as a guess top end should be 20 plus with a 60 hp 2 stroke. It sounds like a fuel problem, like its not getting enough., I would start off by looking over the tank and line fittings one may be sucking air.

Re: motor bogging down

YTou need spark, air and fuelk for the engine to run, one of those is missing or not normal, I would start with the spark.

You can get a spark checker at any auto parts store for a couple bucks, if you have spark it has to be fuel and you are in for a carb clean, which I am thinking is the problem, pretty classic symtoms of a clogged high speed jet.

I wouldn't run the engine much until you figure this out, running a cylinder lean can cause problems.

I just ran a gallon of fuel throughit with a can of seafoam pour in and seafoam carb spray smoked like a train but improved rough idle a whole lot. hope it was just in need ofa carb clean and not a rebuild:(

let us know...motor bogging down or loss of RPM's seems "popular".

If you just got it, did it come with a warranty?

Running sea foam in high concentrations may not be the best thing on a motor. But you wont really know untill you take it out on the water. Personaly I wont run it stronger than 2 oz per gallon. You want it to disolve things not break it lose in chunks and I am simply not sure of the effect on the 2 stroke lube effect on the main and rod bearings.
