motor bracket issues

Im trying to throw my 150hp Mercury onto my '83 Glastron. The boat had a 185hp Johnson, which was kept by the previous owner. At first glance, im going to have to redrill holes for the bottom bolts. The part that scares me is the mounting configuration on the top of the bracket.Instead of having bolts run through the transom, this bracket has two screw in studs with washers built in.Its very similar to a C-clamp, and it doesnt seem to fit the boat too well. Here is some pictures to help show what i mean.My experience with older Johnsons, the bracket usually rests on the lip of the transom, not suspended about 1" above the transom lip like this motor sits.Is this normal, or what are my options?

Re: motor bracket issues

I could not see the pictures, however, the earlier Mercs has unique bolt patterns. They also took 6- 3/8" thru transom bolts. The transom clamp is of limited utility, but it is not completely useless.

Seal up the Johnny's bolt holes with marine tex and drill new ones for the Merc thru hull bolts.

Re: motor bracket issues

this is normal, but where the top of the motor is at above transom isnt near important as where the cavitation plate is in relation to the hull of the boat.
