Motor change 4.3 to bigger

Hi Guys and gals; I bought a 4 Winns and the motor 4.3 cobra is shot. Can I put another larger motor in the boat??? I would like more horse power for the Cuddy

Re-powered my craft last year. Replaced my 4.3<br />carbed engine with a New crate 4.3 MPI/EFI Vortex, picked up 40 h.p. So far this has been a real good choice, If you have someone do the job you are looking at about $7000.00 turn key. Dont forget to check your fuel tank thourghly!!!!! If it is also an 89 you might want to replace it at the same time. Luckly my tank show a leak while undergoing the re-power, which I had done at the same time. This new crate engine will come with everything, starter,manifolds,alternator,alu,.oil pan,elec.fuelpump. Its totally complete.<br />Capt.Skid

A 5.7 will bolt right up to your bellhousing.<br />All the front accessories will too.<br />Check out the power pack from crusader, 300 hp.<br />I thinks there are some very good deals to be had on late model MPI 4.3's <br />Your cobra 4.3 was only putting out around 155-175 hp at the prop, A new 4.3 mpi will put 225hp at the prop with more torque through out the power band.<br /> That is a big jump. You will also have less fuel consumption.

I stayed with the 4.3 because I do alot of slow trolling and the V-8s dont idle down low enough.<br />Also where I boat, its very rare that I get to use all the horses I got because of sea conditions. So far this has been a good move, especially with the gas prices headed for the moon. I run 1989 23 Seamaster w/a. <br />Capt.Skid<br /><br />

Welcome to Iboat Railice.<br /><br />Doing it yourself? If so, you have to move the front motor mounts forward. Also, you have a difference in gear ratio in a drive on a v-6 and v-8. I have read of folks changing out the engine anyway, but the drive is always under extra load do to higher revs.
