Motor Change

Need advise please-- I bought 1999 Bennington 20 Ft pontoon, the motor and battery are gone. It originally had 40 horse Mercury outboard,would like to upgrade to 75 horse 4-stroke, any idea what would have to be changed to do this and possible cost.

If you stay with Mercury, your controls should work.

Other than that, most likely just the price of the engine.

BTW, we have a 75 Four Stroke on a similar size Starcraft and love it.

if i were to change mine, i would go 4 stroke, just due to noise levels.

Thanks for the replys. I plan on buying a 07 or 08 4-stroke 75 HP Merc to replace the 1999 40HP Merc that was original. Someone mentioned a different control box and wiring harness, does anyone know anything about that? Also any ideas about a good prop? Thank in advance-- Camper

you will have to ask whether the controls are compatible in the merc outboard forum, and the prop in the prop forum.
