Does anyone have information on what controls are compatible with what motor? I'm interested in an early 80s 50hp Merc (4 cyl) and will also need to get a control. I've seen mercontrol and quicksilver controls on ebay, but don't know what will be compatible.

Is there a 50hp 4cyl owner out there who can tell me what kind of connectors to look for on a control and what I should expect to see coming out of the control to know if it is complete and compatible?

Re: Motor/Control Compatibility

if you have t & t, make sure it has the built in switch, if you don't have t&t, it doesn't matter can or can't have switch. you have to make sure the wiring harness has the right connections (plug) what does your engine have? big plug or the new small plug? as far a shift and throttle cables, i suggest replacing them any way.

Early models plug into the side. Later models connect inside end-to-end. Mostly, make sure the plugs match. (The newest styles have fat plastic connectors)
