Motor has a miss

I just bought a 1999 90 hp rebuilt Johnson 2 stroke motor, I just ran it today for 1 hr and it ran great, than the miss returned and when I throttle down there is a miss so bad the boat jerks

I did notice that my amps charging gauage does not always show the same, sometimes it shows less than 12 and sometimes shows above 14.

I installed plugs after uing double oil during break in and no difference.

My new gas ball will not get hard unless I stand it on end-is this normal.

Is my problem a gas problem or electrical, all carbs were rebuilt.

Thanks.

Re: Motor has a miss

I have read over most of the questions and answers on this site about motor problems, it seems to me that if a motor runs perfect for 1 hr and than starts to miss like crazy it could be a fuel problem after I read what E-10 can do to a motor, I had just fueled up and now I wonder if it ran great with the new fuel and after 1 hr the motor got some water downed fuel or some sludge from the fuel tank, this boat sat for a year before I bought it, its a 2000 Sylvan so it should have a fuel tank that can tolerate E10 gas, now I am wondering if I should take a 6 gallon tank with new gas and see if that helps.

Just makes think that if something would break down electrically it would not take a hr to do so.

Comments welcome.

A timing light would end the speculation.:)

Good idea on the test tank of fresh fuel, I would also draw some fuel from the main tank into a glass bottle and see if water settles out at the bottom.
