Hello,

I recently purchased a 1972 mercury 115 outboard. This motor has sat for awhile and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on where to start and what is best to do or check before trying to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Zacbink

If you just want to see if it will crank put some new gas and oil and a hot battery and go to it. You might want to put a little pre mix in a squirt bottle to spray into the carbs. If it cranks I wouldn't run it long at all. Then you probably will want new plugs, change the gear oil, rebuild the water pump, carbs, and maybe the fuel pump. If it won't crank then the fun begins..
