Just bouth a silverline boat with a 60 HP Evinrude, the model number is 60073D. I am trying to dermine what gear shift mechanism I am working with wether it is the selectric or the hydroelectric. I've heard these are a nightmare to work on due to shifting problems but when running a very good engine. I am about to find out since mine is stuck in gear. Also does anyone know how to check the voltages from the switch and what I should be getting from them? Thanks for any help you can offer.

60073D is a 1970 60hp. You have the hydro-electric shift. The lower unit will default to forward with no voltage to the lower unit. When the pump turns a couple of times it will shift into neutral. Have you had the engine running to check the shift?
Personally I like the electric shift outboards, some of the parts are getting hard to come by though.

Re: Motor ID and any advice you can give..

Just bought it yesterday so I haven't had much time to fool with it. I did try to hook a battery to it just to see if I could get it to turn over after shooting some oil in the cylinders. I couldn't get the key to do anything so I just jumpered the silenoid (thought maybe it was a nuetral safety switch since I the prop was turning). The motor turns freelys as does the prop I let it crank a while and it never went into nuetral (I figure that would be sufficient to get it to build up pressure and switch into nuetral if it was). Im going to play around with it some more this evening. Thanks for your help

If the prop still spins when you get it started, come back and we will help you figure it out.

Well I came home today and messed with it some more. Me jumpering the silenoid last night must have freed up the pump, and allowed it to go into nuetral a little easier. I found this good news unfortunatley when I was checking to see if I had 12v comming back from my ignition to my starter (which at that time I thought I didnt have). I had my fiance hit the key and man did it scare me when the starter engaged perfectly that time....but Im glad it was a very easy fix just sat too long I suppose. It was wierd because the key switch started working immediately today as where last night when I hit it nothing happened...Im almost positive its due to a nuetral safety swich expecially after my observations from today and last night.

Now Im not getting spark...I have a feeling it might be related to the motorola box on the starboard side of the motor. The wires comming out of it looked all spliced up and a mess. I might need to get a wiring diagram for this rats nest...Im probabaly making it sound worse than it really is.

Ok so I found what my problem might be but why it happened might be a challenge to find out. As you can see on the left of the image the circuit board or what ever was to the left of the power block (where all the wires tie in that looks similair to a fuse block but not fused) is charred and burnt up, it actually melted or caught fire right where all the wax like stuff that suppose to keep moisture out, obviously a circuit problem. The motorola box doesn't look healthy either though it has bare wire all over the place and there is no place to splice since its bare right out of the box in a few places.

Also does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram without buying a repair manual? Thanks

I am thinking that this might just be a CDI or power pack that is burnt up if my research is correct....anyone please correct me if Im wrong.
