motor id help

my brother just bought a 6cyl mercury outboard " v6" we tryed to run the tag on the motor to see what it was and can come up with nothing. the guy he got it from said it was a 1984 200hp. the # on the tag is 5321029. any help would be great. is there any other way to find out what this motor is besides the # on the tag?

The serial number that you provided comes out to be a 1979 200hp EXLPT or ELPT motor. (the EXLPT being the extra long shaft 30")

If it is a 200, it comes up as:

200 V-200 V6 5158929 5464485 1979 USA

The search engine only goes up to 5321021, Can you confirm the s/n from the powerhead on a plug like this:

The plug should be visible on the top of the powerhead/engine and if not there, check the lower right side as viewed from the rear.

the only thing on the top is where the water pressure guage hooks up

still no luck finding a # on the block to be sure it is a 200

Here is the parts listing for the 200 with the original s/n which may assist you in determining what you have. Without a s/n on the powerhead, it is possible that it has been replaced at some point since 1979.
