Re: motor idles perfect but wont run please hlelp
Water.... In all probability that engine is not running okay in the driveway, it just seems that way as no exhaust back pressure is being encountered.

First, check the compression on all cylinders. You should see a 100+ lb reading and it should be even on all cylinders (within a few lbs).

Second, with the s/plugs out, check the spark. YOu should have a strong blue flame on all cylinders which should easily jump a 1/4" gap.

If the above checks turn out as they should, in all probabilty your carburetors (at least one) are fouled/gummed/clogged. Remove the carburetor face plate so that you can see the 7/16" hex bolt on the front bottom of the float chambers. Remove those bolts to look at the back of them. It they look discolored, gummed etc, that's a good indication that the carbs are fouled and will require removing, cleaning, and rebuilding. Look at the left (port) transom bracket (the bracket that bolts to the boat). You'll see a plate there that has the Model & Serial number on it. There is also a core plug on the powerhead (looks like a small freeze out plug) that has those numbers. Get the "MODEL" number to us and we'll pinpoint what engine you have.
