motor leaking oil

I have a 1985 8hp Johnson. I recently replaced the water pump on it. After test running it and making sure everything works fine, I noticed that my outboard is leaking oil from the exhaust. I am positive it is not gearcase oil because it is not a dark gray color but more like used motor oil. I am thinking maybe I ruined bushing or a gasket when putting it back together, and the oil is running down the driveshaft from the engine. Does that sound logical or did I do something else wrong or is this nothing to worry about. Anyones expertise would be of great use to me. Thank you.

Re: motor leaking oil

It's just exhaust oil UncleJ. You probably hurt nothing. The unburned oil collects in the exhaust and with the engine setting straight, it just migrates to your garage floor.
