I have a Johnson Seahorse FD-14 (18hp) with a 3" crack on the underside of the housing where the tiller is attached to and was wondering if any body knows what material the housing is made of and any way to repair it? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Motor material

Very common crack. It can be welded, looks ugly though! lol

The steering bracket can be changed, which is what I usually do. I have a pile of cracked ones laying around somewhere.

Re: Motor material

Nah, not too hard. Just looking in the wrong spot! lol

Also, you don't need the FD14 steering bracket, there are others that will work, some may need paint though.

Post a wanted ad at aomci.org in the webvertize. A member local to you will help. If not, let me know and Ill help you out.
