This is on my 96 Mariner 115.

I believe it is time to replace the motor mounts and probably the steering tube as well. I don't know if these are the exact names of what I am talking about but the picture should explain it. The picture is of the lower mount with the shift rod going through it into the lower unit.

I have a service manual but it doesn't cover anything on these mounts. Is this something I can do at home with typical hand tools? I'm pretty good with auto mechanics but a novice with outboards. A friend of mine who used to work on outboards suggested I have someone do them.............but he has said that about a few of my car projects which I did myself without any problems.

Anyone have any advice here or know where I can get diagrams for this?

I don't think that looks too bad. How much play in the rubber mount? If the play is small (<3/8") I would consider wire brushing the yoke and bolts and painting with rustolium rusty metal primer and then with some black gloss paint.

If you want to replace the rubber mounts, the side covers come off, the cradles for the mounts come off and the bolts (may) come off. Replacing the yoke is another matter.
