Complete newbie here, I didn't even buy the boat yet, but I have a question about the motor mount. I am going to buy a Sevylor boat and I want to have a small motor. Now the question is, are all motor mounts standard? Can I just buy anyone and it will fit to the boat? I ask this because I found the "official" mount from Sevylor costs around 70 EUR and then I saw other ones with no name for 25 EUR. For a boat that costs between 60 and 140 EUR I find 70 EUR for a piece of metal and wood a little bit expensive. Specially when the motor I am planning to buy runs for around 80 EUR. It seems to be one of those cases where they want to rip you off with accessories.

But as I said, I am a newbie and I do not know what I am talking about.

P.S., Registering in this forum was not that easy, all the questions to avoid spambots are meant for Americans, I ended giving up and googling the questions. Now I know the smallest state in USA is Rhode Island.

LOL! See, you're learning already. That's the magic of iboats. You can make just about anything work for a motor mount provided you can secure it properly. You can even make your own with conduit and plywood if you're handy and are so inclined, just be sure to think it through carefully or by the time you're done with your bubba mods (local term for "creative engineering") you could be into the 25 Euro mount for the 70 Euros you would have dropped on the Sevylor one. Welcome aboard.

To answer one of your questions: No, you can't buy just any motormount. The one I saw sold for Intex boats does not fit my Sevylor boat.

I think each company has only one motor mount design, and if I am wrong, then maybe one made by one company might fit the other's boat, but the Intex motormount that I saw would not fit my Sevylor boat.

I bought the Sevylor motormount for use on my HF 360. It is expensive for what you get and it fits way too tight on a new boat (gets better over time) but I just didn't think I would be able to put together the metal arms myself. Floor boards and seat modifications, I was much more comfortable with and am happy with my results. Making a part economically, that will also work as well as or better than the bought version, depends a lot on your skills. You certainly could ask others here if that have any design plans or ideas they would be willing to share. Good luck.
