Motor mounting problem

I just purchased a Sea Ark 2072 jet tunnel jon boat with a 130 Honda jet. The dealer called me today to tell me that they messed up when they drilled the holes in the transom to mount the motor. The motor is about 3/4" too low. My options are to have them mount a 1/2" thick aluminum plate to the transom, and then mount the motor to the plate. Next option is for the dealer to drill new holes and fill the other holes. If anyone could give me some advice/opinions, I would really appreciate it. Thank You!

Re: Motor mounting problem

i would not do the plate. i would drill new holes and have them epoxy the old holes with something good and strong.i would have them cut a plate for the outside of the transom out of 1/4 aluminum to place between the transom and the motor if u can see the holes after the motor is in the right postion, this would only be for looks so u cant see where THEY screwed up.also i hope you dont intend to pay them for making swiss cheese out of your transom. they owe u big time for that 1. i hate when u bring something to a "profesional" to have it done right and it turns out that u could have done a better job.

AK-JET,
The dealer seems to be an honest individual, otherwise he would have tried to pass it off. The first thing I would do is to call or have the dealer call the manufacturer. Find out if drilling the extra holes in any way, compromises the warranty or structural integrity. Get it in writing! I would let the manufacturer make the recommendations. Epoxy will stop the leak but does nothing for structural strength. You're not exactly getting what you originally paid/contracted for and you're in the best negotiating position right now. Don't give it away, the ball's in your corner. Could the original holes be used with a jack plate and solve the problem?
JD
