This may be a stupid question, and may be the wrong place to post question.
But here goes. My transom is 15 or 16" how far below the bottom of the boat
should the prop be? My motor I think is a short shaft which is 20" maybe, not sure where to measure. I have a 14' 48" flat bottom jon boat.

Re: Motor Mounting

Don't worry about the prop, sacalait. The anti-ventilation plate (sometimes incorrectly called a cavitation plate) should be about level with the bottom of your boat.

If the transom is 15" you need a short shaft outboard (15"). An outboard with a 20" shaft is a long shaft. Measure from the point that sits on top of the transom to the AV plate to determine shaft length.

Good luck. :)
