Ok so I bought a Bayliner Capri 1988. It has a 85 HP Force Outboard on it. I no nothing about boat engines. I'm mean nothing. I have not taken it out yet but want to be sure it will be ok. I learned a few things on YouTube and stuff but I have a Question: Does it need motor oil? Does it have a dip stick? Can I adapt and temp gauge to it?

Welcome.
The first thing you should buy/ borrow(library) is a book on boating.
Then take the motor to a mechanic to have him check it over.

The lower unit where the props attached.
It has oil(90w) the motor has NO oil NO dipstick.
The gas is mixed with special 2 cycle oil.
Found in most stores. TCW-3 is what's required.
It's mixed 1 pint to 6 gal. of gas.
This mixture lubricates the crank and bearing and cylinder walls.

Have someone who is knowledgeable about boats and motors show you what to do.
You can do some serious damage if you don't add the oil.

Thanks a lot for the info. Can you buy that oil in automotive stores or just marine stores?

Thanks a lot. Another quick question. I took the boat out but the engine kept going up when I throttled. How do I keep it in place?

When I throttle, the engine trusts up or tilts out of the water. When you lower the motor, is there a way to lock it down?

No Title

It was in forward. I've been looking around at similar engines and I think on the photo of the back of the motor something is missing.

I can't say it tilted all the way out of the water but it definitely tilted up when I throttled forward. Shouldn't it stay down when you throttle forward?

My first guess is you were actually in reverse, but I'd think you'd notice :)

Second thought is that your trim/tilt button is on the throttle, and you are accidentally pressing it when you move the throttle forward.

I was not driving. I'm guessing my friend that was driving shifted on reverse briefly. This is all knew to me.

As you already know, you have a lot to learn. Some of what you don't know could be expensive. Some could be dangerous. And some could result in you doing something illegal. For example, in my state you have to have a license to operate a power boat. ... Your best bet is to make friends with an experienced boater nearby and have him/her spend some time on the water with you. The worst part about not knowing much is that you don't know how much you don't know. An experienced friend can help you better overcome that. Good luck.

Try to find a course that teaches boat safety and etiquette it is worth every penny and go on the coast guard website and learn as much as you can a boat can be a lot of fun but can also be dangerous so take the time and learn all you can this is why no offense to you but why I advocate boat cores and licenses it's mandatory all across Canada and for food reason we had to many deaths with people not knowing the laws and rules and general safety
