My Mercruiser 5.0 just came out of warantee. I have used Mercruiser Oil per manufactures specs. What are the consequences of going to a Quaker State or Pennzoil motor oil. Marine or Automotive? Is there a significant difference?

Re: Motor Oil

Use good quality oil, multi weight is fine. Use the weights recommended by the factory. Stop worrying and go enjoy your boat.

Re: Motor Oil

Mercruiser recommends to use straight sae 30 oil.For warmer climates straight weight sae 40.Multigrades are clearly not recommended because a marine engine runs costantly at higher rpm than a car so the demands of the oil protection are greater. Some here use synthetics and are very happy.Charlie
