motor over heating and dont know what else to do????????

we have done everything to my 1989 mercury 175 and it still over heats. new gaskets, new stats checked the poppet valve, new impellar and housing. water is circulating great. at idle and at low speeds its ok but when you take off it gets hot and sets off alarm. what can i do now???????

when we pulled the power head we noticed there has been a leak on the bottom seals on the drive shaft could that cause over heating???

Mani dont know if this is your problem or not but i ran across a yamaha a while back that was run in salt water an not flushed properly. No one could figure out why it was not cooling right and it would do the same thing your describing.

The problem was a salt buildup on the walls of the water jacket and the water thats mean to pass across the metal surface and remove heat was only passing across salt and therefore did not have enough contact with the metal to cool the engine properly.

A good cleaning with salt away and problem solved.
