Hi guys I'm new to the forum and I'm having trouble with my motor. I was wondering if you guys can help me out. I have a 5hp force outboard. It runs fine when it is in neutral and when you put it in gear its fine but as soon as you give it gas it kicks it out of gear. Then you have to back completely off the gas then it will hop back in gear. Does anyone know why it's doing that?

The lower unit.Inside it has a part called a clutch dog.The edges have wore down and are letting it slip out of gear under load.
#27 on this diagram.
Not your lower unit but part looks the same.
It can be resurfaced. You need to check the forward gear too.
The edges can be rounded too.
Always include year and serial#.Location?
