Quick question. I just ran a crossed a 1989 amberjack with the 7.4 L motor in it that runs excellent. The boat has a transmission in it. My question is will the motor from that board right up to my 1990 sundancer? How difficult is it going to be to pull that motor?

is the amberjack an inboard or something like a TRS drive that uses a separate transmission ? Are you looking at swapping complete drivetrain or just the engine and use what is in the sundancer ? I assume sundancer is outdrive ?

if your 1990 SR has a Mk 4 motor and not a Gen V motor the long block will swap over (the accessories wont)

generally inboards have different flywheel housings, starters, exhaust, etc.

Ayuh,..... So long as you've got all the bits, 'n pieces from the original bravo, it'll bolt up with a few up grades,....

I do know the amberjack has a transmission in it. I was hoping to just be able to pull that motor out & put it in my sundancer.

Sundancer is just out drive, no tranny

I was thinking of just pulling the motor out of the amberjack and putting it in my Sundancer if at all possible

motors with transmissions are set up different than motors with outdrives

the long block is the same, some of the accessories are the same.

however exhaust, flywheel housing, and coupler is different.

OK so if I use my exhaust, flower housing in coupler from my son dancer, the long block should boot right up though

Yes, assuming both are mk4 motors (both should have stamped steel valve covers
