Re: Motor repair stand

What ever works for your motor. I would suggest that it is alot easier to work on the motor still on the boat. The transom will hold the lower unit if you pull the power head or viseversa.

I built a stand to store a motor out of 2x4's about 36" high. No big deal. Slant the legs and cross brace it. You really need the part to hang the moter a full 2" wide.

Hi Extra
I do the same thing. I like to use 2x6s and glue and bolts. I find nails don't hold up to well. Just build two L shaped pieces. Put them together sort of like a hand truck. I also install wheels (like a hand truck) so I can tip the thing back and roll it around. When I set it down it says put. I like to make the feet 16" to 18" long, The legs are long enough so a long shaft motor won't drag the floor. As for the glue just use liquid nails type stuff. For the transom clamp area its nice to use 2x8,10 or 12". You could use 2x4s for smaller motors.

Re: Motor repair stand

I turned my automotive engine stand into an outboard motor stand, by using a piece of 2" by 12" board. I bolted it to each of the (4) adjustable engine mounts on the engine stand and "BINGO", an instant stand for mounting my 300lb.+ Johnson and Evinrude engines. Make sure you use good bolts and large washers. I also use my engine hoist for mounting and dismounting these heavier engines. This is a very inexpensive way to save your back, plus it is a lot easier to get an exact engine alignment. ...Bob in Calif...
