I have a 1996 Force 50 Horsepower. It started running at low speed only, no matter if you give full throttle. It runs super smooth, but only at low speed. I have replaced the two coils, checked every thing I can think of that might indicate a fuel issue. but no luck. When I try squirting gas into the carburetor while at full throttle, it wants to choke out. Also, it dies a lot when idling, even though I have tried to adjust it up. Someone suggested stator...............anyone else ever have this problem?

Link & sync, bad throttle cable, bad control box, carburetors gummed up, compression check, are just a few causes. Sounds like you have been "shotgunning" rather than actually diagnosing the issue. Always do the simple, cheap, and obvious stuff first. You need a factory service manual for your engine if you intend to do any service work yourself. It saves you time, obviously saves you money, and can help prevent making very costly mistakes.

Thank you Silvertip. There is a sticker by the idle adjust that says to be sure and adjust the throttle cable when adjusting the idle, I have never done this because I didn't know how to adjust it when adjusting the idle..........could this be causing the problem? Also - I forgot to mention, it will randomly kick in and run right for short periods of time.........which leads me to believe maybe a broken, or partially broken wire somewhere? I have tried many simple things....completely draining and drying the gas tanks, changing the fuel filter, changing plugs, etc.I am going to try and get the factory service manual for this motor.

Do you have good fat spark on both cylinders? Did you check the spark plugs and change them if necessary. Gap them properly before installation. If you don't know how to adjust things then you really need a "Service manual" for your engine. The reason you disconnect the throttle cable when making idle adjustments is the linkage changes. You then adjust the throttle cable to compensate for that change.

Silvertip..........I did a drop cylinder check and found only one cylinder was firing. After a meticulous flashlight search of the wiring, I found what I was looking for.One of the large yellow wires coming from the underside of the stator was almost completely rubbed into, with only a couple of copper strands still make partial contact. After I fixed this, she is running like a champ!
