I have a 1990 15 HP Suzuki 2 stroke. Went for a cruise 2 nights ago and the motor ran fine then stopped. I couldn't pull start it again until it cooled down. I had lots of water comong out of the water ports and assumed all was well. I brought it home and put the motor into a tank and ran it at 3/4 throttle for an hour no problems.I ran it again today in the tank for another hour again no problem I took it out again tonight and again the same problem arose heats up and will not pull start again until it cools down. I was using a new 2 stroke oil ( yamaha racing oil )could this be the problem ? or do I have another problem [/LIST]

Re: motor seizing up

If the oil is not rated TC-W3 that could be your problem, Don.

Overheating under load (no load in the tank) is typical of inadequate lubrication.

What ratio are you mixing the fuel?

Re: motor seizing up

I'm running a mi of 100:1. After researching till late last night I believe that it was the wrong oil. The racing oil is made to break down in the cykinder and to burn off any carbon deposits from the piston head and spark plugs, after all they typically rebuild racing engines after every second race. Not quite what I want to do. Will keep you all posted.

Use 50:1, Don, and use a TC-W3 rated outboard oil.

Good luck. :)

well the proper oil made the difference, motor ran well tonight. The over heating did some damage to the cooling system and I'm only getting sporatic flow out of the pea hole. Hpoefully it's just a seal or two.

Don - was that yamaha racing oil you used a TCW3 rated oil? Or was it made for air cooled two strokes such as dirt bikes, etc?

The container didn't have any specs on it or what to use it in simply said 2 stroke racing oil. I know it wasn't TC W3 it was much thinner in quality and purple colored.
