I have an old Ouachita 15' fiberglass that was cut down to suit a short shaft OB motor. A good while back I put a 1992 40hp Yamaha on it. I have been told that the motor doesn't set deep enough in the water for me to get the max from motor. At present I pull tubes, skier's and knee boarders. I do have a time planeing out with a load in tow. I have been told to look at a Torque Tab as well as a different propeller. What are you folks thoughts as to what I should do?

RB, sorry about being so late getting you an answer. The shaft is short (15") and the plate is 1 1/2" above the center of boat. The boat being a V-Bottom do I need to measure another way for your info? Thanks for you help

gspiller,

1 1/2" is too high for a static placement.

dj,
I can't cut anymore of the tramsom I've cut 3& 7/8" out now. Do you think if I changed the propeller it would give me a little faster planeing?
(I guess they don't make a shaft stretcher!)

Thanks for your help
Glenn

Glen - They do make a shaft stretcher. You can convert your short shaft to a long shaft (20"). That will get your prop down - you may have to mount it on a higher hole to get the cavitation plate even with the bottom per RB's diagram.
