Re: Motor Shuts Off While Running
Shutting off a couple of times when first run leads me to ask how warm is the motor when this occurs?
If the motor isn't up to full temp then a 'cold' motor requires more fuel to carry a load. This cannot happen with a fixed jet carb, the motor can cough or sneeze and die.
Proper warm up on a carbed motor is also important to prevent a 'cold sieze' condition, where the piston temp rises quicker than the rest of the motor, expanding , or attempting to expand larger than the still relatively cooler cyls, and the piston 'sticks'.
No Wake areas are great in that the operator has to run the motor at very low throttle and light loads which give the motor plenty of warm up time before putting the hammer down.
Try to give the motor a few more minutes of just off idle in gear before going to full throttle to see if this cures your problem.
If not, pay close attention to exactly how it dies, does it shut off very abruptly, as if the key is turned off suddenly?
Does the motor 'cough' or 'sneeze as it dies?
Does the motor slow for a moment before it dies?
The symptoms are helpful in determining if you are having a fuel or ignition problem.
