Motor sputters

I have an older bass tracker with a 87 Johnson 110 hp and anytime I try to trim the motor it will start running really bad for a short time. Spittering and sputtering. Then after about 10 minutes it just goes away and runs good again. Today I took it tubing with the family and never trimmed it once and it ran perfect all day. Wondering if someone might have an idea of what I might do to fix this problem??

It also doesn’t start all that easy. Even after I’ve been on the lake for awhile. Still have to use the high idle switch to get it to start. I’m not much of a mechanic but would a carb rebuild fix the problem? Or does the levels just need adjusted by the screws?

^^agree. Additionally, maybe it's acting up when running cold. t.stat issue?

Well it actually hard starts all day long when on the lake. Even after it should be warm for the day. We rebuilt the carbs last night and put them on today but have to wait for the rain to be gone to give it a test. 🤞

How did you verify/adjust the Floats? Both carbs fully closed and synced with each other, and sync between carbs and timing verified/adjusted?
