Took the boat out for a shake down run this weekend, had recently rebuilt the carb, and found the anti-siphon valve broken at the tank. I replaced the anti-siphon with a regular barbed fuel connector temporarily and was able to get the boat running. Also attempted to replace the fuel filter but NAPA failed me and the replacement I got didn't work, so the old one went back on. Anyway, onto the problem.
We got in the water, idled around for 10 minutes or so until I was pleased that the motor was running well. Started to give it some gas, was doing great through about 2000 rpm, got up on a plane and the thing took off like a rocket, was running really strong. After maybe a minute at 2500 the motor stalls out and we nose dive. I was able to get the motor started after 5-10 seconds of cranking and turned around to idle in. The boat died 3 more times while idling in, and it became harder to start each time, the last time just barely sputtering to start. We did get off the water under our own power, when I pulled the plug from the bilge there was easily 2 gallons of new water, which concerned me because we were only on the water maybe 20 minutes....
I don't really know where to start with this one, any suggestions are welcome, thanks everyone.
