I have a 1996 150 horse power Johnson ocean runner. Twice at the end of last year when the weather got cold my motor started fine and warmed up . On the way out within a few hundred yards the motor stalls and I lose spark.
After messing with the controls and plugs and wires it started back up and ran fine the rest of the day. This spring I had my marina go over the motor and they found nothing wrong . It ran great all summer. Today it happened again. I wasn't even out of the marina and i got pushed back in to another slip. After an hour I checked and had no spark on left side, then I checked the right side and all of a sudden I had spark and it started and ran fine. First cold day this year if that has meaning. What do you think?

It cranks great. Could it still be a ground wire?

like Jeff said there are several grounds other than the ground wire going to the battery. check any wire bolted or screwed to the block. Take the wire loose. Clean the wire end and the spot on the block where the wire hooks to.

I also agree with the check grounds, however, I would suggest that you get some of the sealer for wiring terminals and disassemble and reassemble each connection on your engine. I use liquid tape to cover the connections after cleaning and tightening securely. If that does not fix the problem I would suggest hooking a test lamp on the ignition switch power wire to the amplifier. You could have an ignition switch that contracts with the cold and expands as it warms up with use breaking contact somewhere inside.
