motor stalls

i have a 89 i/o 2.5 liter motor.when i put it in reverse the motor dies immediately.it idles fine goes forward fine.it does stumble a little when taking off if i give it alot of throttle fast.any ideas?

Your Lower Shift Cable is Junk.......<br />Replace it.........<br />

it does stumble a little when taking off if i give it alot of throttle fast.

This is a Fuel Issue..........<br />Start with Filters.....<br />Probably the Accelerator Pump is Worn Also..........
